Curious Case of Vanity URL's in AEM

Image
Vanity URL's are used to provide short URL for frequently accessed pages. Generally this involves some configurations in web-server. In AEM, the fact that an Author (who doesn't have technical know-how) gets the ability to create vanity URL's as per changing business trends makes the Vanity functionality very powerful. But if not used properly, it can lead to a lot of problems with search engine ranking. Here, I will try to explain one such problem which is very common and a way to tackle it. Before, I explain the problem, a little background on how we end up in such situations. A typical flow where the URL user hits is the same has content hierarchy. But, rarely we see such simple cases. Because, no one likes long URL's and to expose our internal content hierarchy to the external world. Hence, there will be inbound and outbound URL mappings in publish which will make external URLs much more simple. If the user appends with HTML, it has to be rem...

AEM technology stack

Image
Read my latest blog on  AEM SPA Editor I have seen a lot of AEM (Adobe Experience Manager) blogs and threads explaining AEM technology stack. When I go thru most of them, I could not connect the dots and get a big picture. Here, I have created an AEM tech stack block diagram which made sense to me logically. Please feel free to leave comments in case of any errors or doubts. I have tried to represent most of the AEM terminologies visually like: AEM, Sling , JCR , Oak , Jackrabbit, CRX, OSGi , Granite . AEM is web content management solution from Adobe. It was previously known as CQ. AEM runs on Java Virtual Machine ( JVM ). The main container in AEM is Felix OSGi container which contains a lot of components in the form of OSGi bundles. Sling, Jetty Application Server and other custom java code is contained in the OSGi container in the form of bundles. Jetty application server is used as one of the bundles which provides the ability to listen to a configured port. L...

Sarhad Ko Pranaam

Image
After conquering western Ghats right in the middle of rainy season, I was blessed with an opportunity to experience the rugged terrain and inhospitable Himalayas in the beginning of winter season. “ Sarhad Ko Pranaam-A Salute to the Border and the People who protect it” was going to be our theme for this unusual getaway. This was not just any vacation. Little did I expect that this is going to be epic journey which gave us deep insight about the life of people in remote villages alongside India-Pakistan LOC. It all started on late morning 21 st Nov 2012 from Poonch, a town 250KM north of Jammu. Our plan was to travel to remote village of Jhulaas-Sulotri , about 20 km from Poonch and visit the LOC and to know the lifestyle of people here. We reached the village at around 1 o’clock in noon. This peaceful little village was nothing like what   I thought it would be. Soon, the village made us realize that our premonitions about a village which contained LOC was nothing more t...

Here is a short travelogue of the epic vacation we had previous week (Aug 11th) accompanied by snaps. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the ride! By the time you finish this blog, I " Hope " you have made your plans to visit the places which i have described here !                   As anticipated, we all got up late at our jungle stay at Dandeli. Gave a final touch to our backpacks and boarded our vehicle roughly at 7. This is quite common when you are travelling in a bunch. I mean, there will be a lot of deviations from the plan. But it has its own kind off fun! Our plan was to go to Castle rock in our vehicle and from there trek all the way to Dudhsagar (14 KM) along side the railway track and come back to castle rock in a train. We started towards the Ganesh Gudi. We reached Ram Nagar .We took a left on the Belgaum – Goa highway. It was raining cats and dogs all the way. Finally after heading about 25...
